INTRO LEVEL

Objective:

To learn about horses & ponies in their environment safely.
To know the basic points of the horse & colours.
Basic breeds of horses.
Understand rules around the yard.
Safety equipment used around horses.
How to groom a horse/pony & the different types of brushes required.
How to put a head collar on & lead the horse.
Learn how to tack up a pony ready to ride.
Time scale: 4 hours - One Day

LEVEL 1

Objective:

All of Intro level
To be able to get on & off a horse without assistance.
To control & horse at walk, to stop & to steer around a course of cones.
To learn how to muck out a stable & simple rug changes.
Time scale: 3 hours per day - Two Days

LEVEL 2

Objective:

All of Level 1
To be able to trot without assistance 120m in a contained area.
To be able to plait & turn a horse out to show standard.
To understand to relevance of feed & nutrition for equines.
Time scale: 3 hours per day - Three Days

LEVEL 3

Objective:

All of Level 2
To be able to trot without assistance on both reins.
To complete an obstacle course on horse back.
Bath a horse/ pony
To mount & dismount correctly on either side.
To walk without stirrups
To understand a simple "green cross code"
To Time scale: 3 hours per day - Four Days
