Sophie has been teaching at Bury Farm since October 2007. After graduating from university in 2005 with a degree in law she took a gap year and went to be a working pupil at Wellington Riding in Hampshire to train as a horse riding instructor and has never looked back!
Sophie is a BHS preliminary instructor, which means that she has passed the BHS stage I and II exams and the preliminary teaching test. Sophie is currently working towards taking the stage III exam and completing her teaching portfolio to gain the next teaching qualification, the AI.
Sophie is a very calm, supportive instructor who having two horses of her own that she competes in dressage, show jumping and eventing, can offer assistance in all disciplines.

Mel has been a BHS AI instructor for 25 years and has gained a grade A with distinction in Equine Studies with Instructional Techniques and a grade A with merit in The Senior Horse Masters course. Having competed in show jumping, dressage and eventing, Mel now teaches in all disciplines and has taught people in Canada, America and Hawaii in addition to the UK.
When asked to describe herself she says" I'm a bit of a tough old bird when it comes to teaching you, and I can make you work hard, but I will never scare you and you will always come out feeling you have achieved a lot. I believe you need to have the basic position right before you can improve and move on. Think of your riding like children's building blocks-a good foundation will take you higher and higher. I am also an advanced first aider with St. John's Ambulance, so you're in good hands!"
